8 Types of Barcode Payments Can be Used at 294 PRONTO Corporation Chain Stores
VeriTrans Inc. (HQ: Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Hiroshi Shino; VeriTrans), a payment service provider and subsidiary of Digital Garage, Inc. (TSE first section: 4819; HQ: Tokyo; Representative Director, President Executive Officer and Group CEO: Kaoru Hayashi; DG), starts providing its “POS Barcode Payment Solution (https://www.veritrans.co.jp/payment/pos_payment.html)” to PRONTO Corporation Co., Ltd. (HQ: Tokyo, President: Norihiko Takemura; PRONTO) on September 1. This solution makes it possible to install multiple types of barcode/QR Code payments all at once on the business operator’s POS system.
8 types of barcode/QR Code payments (au PAY, d Barai®, PayPay, Merpay, LINE Pay, Rakuten Pay, Alipay, and WeChatPay) will be available at 294 stores*1 in the PRONTO corporation chain, including CAFFE & BAR PRONTO.
The “POS Barcode Payment Solution” is a payment service for stores that allows business operators to install 8 major barcode/QR Code payment types on their POS registers.

After the product barcode is read on the POS register and the payment amount is determined, the employee read a barcode displayed on consumer’s smartphone app with the POS scanner to complete the payment.
When a tablet or other dedicated payment terminal is used together with the POS register, after the product barcode is read on the POS register and the payment amount is determined, the payment amount must be separately entered into the dedicated payment terminal. This leads to a burdensome task with the possibility of inputting incorrect payment amounts and other mistakes. However, with the “POS Barcode Payment Solution,” the employee simply pushes the “Code Payment” button on the POS register. The payment system automatically detects the type of barcode/QR Code payment and does the payment processing, which reduces labor and mistakes when using a dedicated payment terminal and also helps conserving register counter space.
To introduce this solution, VeriTrans’ payment system that supports multiple barcode/QR Code payment types, will be installed on and linked with the POS system. This means there is no need to do any individual tasks such as making connections that corresponds with different barcode/QR Code payment specifications. There are 2 connection methods with the payment system: the “POS Direct Connection Type,” which is equipped with “OCX” telecommunications software to connect with VeriTrans; and the “Server Type,” in which the POS control server is equipped with “MDK” telecommunications software to connect with VeriTrans. Business operators can choose between these methods according to their system structure, development methods, which reduces the development workload.
VeriTrans also provides one-stop support for contracts with payment service companies and sales proceeds depositing, allowing business operators to efficiently and speedily complete tasks from installation to operation.
PRONTO decided to introduce the “POS Barcode Payment Solution” since it enables simple and easy register operation for restaurant employees, and because they highly evaluated the track record of this service being chosen by retail and distribution companies.
VeriTrans will continue adding new types of barcode/QR Code payment to the “POS Barcode Payment Solution” to help in-person business operators—including retail, distribution, and food service—reduce their installation and operation burden and costs for cashless payments. VeriTrans will promote cashless payment solutions in the retail, distribution, and food service fields in collaboration with Toshiba Tec Corporation, with which VeriTrans jointly established TD Payment Corporation, a joint venture that offers multi payment solutions for POS systems.
As a leader in the payment services industry, VeriTrans will speedily grasp industry trends to offer safe, secure environments and solutions required by both business operators and consumers.
